Laitlum is a woman is an autobiographical mixed-media painting on canvas, featuring the mountain ranges- Laitlum Grand Canyon of Shillong, Meghalaya. Captivated by the landscape and inspired by an excerpt of the Ramayana mythology, i borrowed the theoretical framework from OOF (Object-oriented feminism) the emphasis on the decolonizing of the object world, resisting Western logic that separates mind from matter, man from nature, subject from object. Sita is no longer simply a woman. She merges with the mountains, rivers, waterfalls, plants, and minerals — not metaphorically, but ontologically. Her body becomes landscape. Sita’s return to the earth is not a disappearance or defeat. It’s a reassertion of being-as-object, beyond the male gaze, beyond narrative resolution.
